There’s something undeniably elegant about receiving a hatbox flower arrangement—especially one from Buds & Blooms Windsor. These luxurious displays are not only stunning but also thoughtfully designed in a florist foam oasis, which keeps your blooms hydrated and beautifully arranged.

Here’s how to care for your hatbox flowers so they stay fresh and vibrant for as long as possible.
Step 1: No Need to Unbox
Your flowers are already arranged in a water-soaked floral foam (also known as oasis), so there’s no need to remove them or transfer them to a vase. The foam acts like a sponge, delivering water directly to the stems.
Step 2: Check Moisture Daily
Gently press your finger into the foam between the flowers. If it feels dry or just barely damp, it’s time to water.
Use a small-spouted bottle or a jug with a narrow lip to slowly pour water directly into the foam, avoiding the edges of the box.
Add just enough to moisten the foam—about ¼ cup at a time is usually sufficient. Overwatering can cause leaks or damage the box lining.
Step 3: Keep It Cool and Shaded
Place your hatbox in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight, radiators, or draughts.
Avoid placing it near fruit bowls—ripening fruit releases ethylene gas, which can shorten the life of your flowers.
For extra longevity, some florists even recommend placing the arrangement in the fridge overnight (if space allows), but this is optional.
Step 4: Tidy as You Go
Remove any wilted or fading blooms to keep the arrangement looking fresh and to prevent bacteria from spreading.
If petals fall into the box, gently lift them out to maintain a clean presentation.
Step 5: Enjoy the Keepsake
Once your flowers have faded, don’t toss the whole thing! The hatbox itself is a beautiful keepsake—perfect for storing letters, accessories, or even repurposing as a gift box. Simply remove the used foam and give the interior a gentle wipe.
